Why Beam

Pilates the way it's meant to be taught.

Taught properly, from the ground up

Classically trained across every piece of equipment — not a one-size class on repeat. You learn technique that holds up, so progress feels real and lasts.

Small groups, real attention

Numbers stay low so you're actually seen. We watch how you move, adjust in the moment, and build confidence instead of intimidation.

Built around your body

Back pain, a new baby, a dodgy knee, or simply wanting to feel strong again — we meet you where you are and design the work to suit you.

The full studio

Comprehensive Pilates — all the equipment, not just the reformer.

Real classical Pilates uses a whole studio of apparatus, each doing something the others can't. It's what lets us tailor the work so precisely — and why we can help with rehab and posture, not just a sweat.

01

Reformer

The versatile centrepiece — spring resistance for strength, control and length.

02

Cadillac

The Trapeze Table — supported, expansive work for mobility, back care and rehab.

03

Wunda Chair

Compact and demanding — precise strength, balance and stability.

04

Ladder Barrel

Opens the spine and hips; beautiful for posture and extension.

05

Mat

Classical matwork and props — the foundation beneath everything.

06

Props

Magic circle, weights, bands and balls to fine-tune every session.

"Her instructions are always clear and easy to follow, and she gently corrects technique in a way that builds confidence rather than intimidation. I always left her classes feeling stronger, more balanced and energised."

Rachael Bearman

Long-time student

"Calm, encouraging, and clear — comfortable straight away, no matter your level."

"She corrects technique in a way that builds confidence rather than intimidation."

"Attentive to each individual, while still giving you a strong, effective workout."

Good to know

Questions, answered

I've never done reformer Pilates — can I start here?

Absolutely, and most people do. Our Reformer Foundations class is built for complete beginners, and your first private session starts with a proper assessment. We'll show you the springs, the setup and the breath before anything else — you won't be thrown in the deep end.

What's the difference between a class and a private session?

Reformer classes are small group sessions on the machine, following a set class type. Private 1:1 and duet sessions are fully tailored to you across any of the equipment — the reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel and mat — and are ideal for rehab, pregnancy, or specific goals.

Do you work with back pain, injuries or post-surgery recovery?

Yes — it's one of the things we do best. We work gently and progressively, often alongside your physio or specialist, using the supported equipment like the Cadillac to rebuild strength safely. Start with a private session so we can assess you properly.

Is Beam suitable during and after pregnancy?

Yes. We offer safe, knowledgeable pre and post natal work, rebuilding core and pelvic-floor strength at a pace that's right for you. Private sessions or our dedicated Pre & Post Natal class are the best fit.

What should I wear and bring?

Comfortable activewear you can move in, and grippy socks if you have them (we can sort you out if not). Just bring water and yourself — we have everything else.

Where are you and is there parking?

We're at 3/64 Vauxhall Road in Devonport, easy to reach from across the peninsula and up to Takapuna. There's parking nearby and it's a short trip from Cheltenham, Narrow Neck, Bayswater and Belmont.

How do I book my first session?

Get in touch by email or phone, or send an enquiry through the site and we'll help you choose the right starting point — whether that's the two-week intro offer or a private assessment.
